Who am I? This question is asked more often than not by lots of individuals and my best bet is that you are one of them. The quest for the answer to this question leads to exploring our beliefs, values, emotions, actions, and much more.
Every journey begins with a step in the right direction. For the journey of a fulfilled life, you have to start by discovering yourself first. As individuals, we must seek to know ourselves better as it is a crucial factor in personal growth.
Self-discovery is not a foreign term but what exactly does it mean to discover yourself? It is self-knowledge, the examination of our inner self to discover our purpose, potential, and core values that would guide us through every stage in life.
The more you discover yourself the easier it is to navigate through life and overcome all obstacles that may present themselves.
However, bear in mind that this journey can’t be completed overnight. It is an ongoing process, one could say a forever process. Discovering yourself would give you a sense of authenticity and confidence in all areas of your life.
How can you begin this journey to self-discovery? Just like the Bible says in 2 Corinthians 13:5, let all men examine themselves. We are all made in the likeness and image of God and there is no better way to examine ourselves other than through the word of God.
Dear friends, as believers we are not to go through life unaware of the potential we possess as God has equipped us with all that we need in the Bible.
Let’s take a look at John 1:1, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”. Dear friends, since we are all made in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27), and God is his word then all we need to begin this journey is in God’s word.
So as children of God, we should work towards building ourselves in a way that we mirror God’s word. God has sent us here to live a life worthy of emulation, a life that has godly traits. And we can do so by empowering ourselves with the following effective tools for self-discovery;
Prayer and fasting:
The first step in discovering yourself is committing the whole process to God’s hand. He knows you better than you know yourself so talking to him about your journey is a cheat code that will get you the desired results.
The Bible says in James 1:5 that if any man lacks wisdom, then he should seek God and it would be given to him.
Daily Bible study:
We as believers talk to God about our troubles and requests through prayers and God communicates right back to us via Bible studies. The Bible is made available at our reach to help us in many areas of our growth and development.
Examination:
After involving God in the whole process, you have to do some work of your own. take note of your weaknesses and your strengths and how best you can apply them to your everyday life. Revisit past experiences, this will help get a better insight into who you are and who you want to be.
Mediation:
Take out time to evaluate what you have learned through prayers, fasting, bible studies, and examination. This way all that you’ve learned and discovered can be applied in your life.
