UNDERSTANDING THE CONCEPT OF WORK

UNDERSTANDING THE CONCEPT OF WORK

I woke up with this thought: is God involved in our secular work?
Why do people separate God from their work? Do men really understand why they are in the organization they are presently and who is to reward them?

Let us look at the concept of work and understand God’s view of work.
Work is a legal way of partnering with God to sustain the earth and making the inhabitant’s comfortable. Work is not punishment, it is not a means to get money to pay your bills, it is not for the less privileged, but it is a service directly unto God and as honor and obedience to his eternal plan for human comfort.

Work is utilizing the ability God deposited in a man to have control over the work of God and to provide positive influence in revealing God’s way to the world.
In the book of beginning, Genesis, Moses told us after God created man in his own image, he looked at how wonderful and fearful the man was and He blessed man Gen1:28: the word “blessed” here means God gave man ability to produce useful results among the living anywhere he is found. David and Solomon expanded the word by enjoining us that whatever our hand finds to do, we should do it with all our might, with all our ability as if God himself is at work or doing that thing, it must come out with the highest excellence because anything we find to do is a service unto God( Ecc9:10). Let me put his words into our contemporary world:
He was saying that any organization we find ourselves, be it one man business, multinational Corporation, government ministry or agencies even as a public officer, we must see it that God put us there to show forth his glory by creating useful results that will influence others positively. Paul was complimenting David and Solomon when he was talking to the Hebrews. He stressed that anywhere you are working, see it as a service, it is only when we see work as service and not as a means of paying bills that we can do it with love, sacrifice and the whole of our mind. In that case, we are not looking at what we will get at the end but who will be empowered and comforted when we do it bearing in mind God will not forget every labor of love. Hebrew 6:10, Paul put it this way: God is not unjust to forget the labor of love.

Friends, remember we said we are not working because we want to pay bills but it is a service unto God; Paul told the Colossians that whatever is the responsibility, they must do it unto the lord Col3:7. Let’s go back to what David and Solomon said: whatever your hand find to do; meaning which ever sector you are or whatever position you are in that organization, see it that God put you there as an ambassador to reflect His kingdom. Be the managing director, security Officer, gatemen, president or General Overseer. We must discharge our duties and responsibilities to God whether our earthly boss is born gain, is wicked, or do not deserve our loyalty because of his cruelty. Paul also told the Romans, they should not approach work without diligence but they should be fervent in spirit, highly motivated and inspired to get God’s attention (Rom12:1) and contribute to the organization . Solomon in Prov18:9 said: he who is slothful in his work is a brother to him who is a great destroyer.

Friends, as creatures of God, whenever we are performing our duties below our abilities and capacity at work, it is like presenting a blind animal for sacrifice to God. Yes I understand nobody can question you or you have excuse and reasons but let me tell you, you are living directly in disobedience to God and you are a rebel, you need to change before the great rewarder himself come.

Paul was concluding a letter to the Colossians workforce by telling them as civil servants, professional, uniform personnel, domestic staffs, public office holders and politicians; he refer to all as bondservants. He said: obey in all things your masters according to the flesh. Not with eye service as men pleasers but in sincerity of the heart fearing God, and whatever you do (any responsibility you are giving or instruction you are giving, do it or obey it heartily as unto the Lord and not to men knowing that from the Lord you will receive reward of the inheritance for you serve the Lord Jesus Christ. But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done, since there is no partiality in God. (Col3:22-24).

In conclusion, we must know God is not a partial God, even when Jesus came, He said, I will do the work of him that send me. Our understanding of God as the owner of all good works and the one who gave us the work we are doing now will go a long way to sharpen our minds and attitude to work in any organization we are or any position we are occupying. Thank you and stay blessed.

Nothing improves without leadership.

We find ourselves in a world that solidly depends on leadership to create a path and provide direction for almost everything.

No nation arrives where they are without leadership. And no nation will get to where they are going without leadership.

AFTER RIGHTEOUSNESS, WHAT NEXT?

In our last conversation, we see righteousness as a non-negotiable quality of transformational or visionary leaders, similar to what we will be discussing today. Transformational or visionary leaders view their impact beyond their time in office or lifetime, and their decisions are focused on future generations.
Today, we will look at EMPAHTY as a non-negotiable quality of a leader. What is empathy?
