In the wise words of John. C. Maxwell “The greatest predictor of success is that one is intentional about personal growth”
However, recall that Science once told us that the human brain stops developing in childhood, well, we now know that the brain is constantly evolving and changing. Many parts of the brain respond to experiences and our ‘software’ can be updated through learning.
Despite these recent facts, some people still think that with the smarts you’re born with and with set goals, one can achieve success. i.e. a goal/fixed mindset.
Not to say they are entirely wrong, however, with a growth mindset there is no plateau as in the goal/fixed mindset.
Therein lays the dilemma. Should I be goal or growth focused?
You see, unlike the goal mindset, the growth mindset is a Journey. People with this mindset believe that intelligence and talents can be improved through effort and learning.
When choosing what to focus on, one must remember that a fixed mindset only focuses on reproducing what one knows.
A Growth mindset, on the other hand, drives one to focus on improving how they do what they do, placing their focus on reaching higher levels of achievement and ability. Prioritizing the development of new skills and talents as they learn from experience.
Furthermore, a goal mindset seeks perfection and avoids failure at all costs, while with a growth mindset, you are not afraid to fail, seeing failure as an opportunity for self-directed learning.
The growth mindset keeps you in the phase of constantly “Prepare For Tomorrow Instead of Repairing Yesterday”.
In all dear friends, it is important to note that learning new strategies allows us to develop a growth mindset and become lifelong learners.
